Guccifw2017-2

I happily watched Gucci’s fashion show via livestream, as it was rather unfortunate that I did not receive an invitation this season after so many years of attending. But I shall not dwell on it because as it turns out, I got the best seat– front row, center on livestream, along with the many other peeps who anticipated the new combined (menswear + womenswear) collection of Alessandro Michele.

I was expecting another season of fantasy flora and fauna and prints, as echoed by his past collections for the brand which seemed to have resonated very well with consumers worldwide. To be honest though, while the story he continues to weave is beautiful, it is getting a little too predictable– at least to me it did. Somewhere in between the 100- piece collection, I had to stifle a yawn. It was a collection I had already seen before. From his last season. There were a number of elements that attempted to set this collection apart from the previous ones but sorry, it was not exactly difficult to point out the similarities either.

I wanted to see a new bag, but again this season, Michele looked to the archives for inspiration– case in point, this bamboo bag.
Guccibamboofw2017

I know this is the bag that has stayed on design- wise for generations, but I wanted something new, something that had that same mindblowing effect as his first 2 collections for the brand.

There were also bags inspired by the alchemist garden– that belt bag being one of them.

For the ultimate bag hag, 3 stacked bags carried as one:

After the show, I stopped by Gucci along Via Montenapoleone to view what is commercially available from Michele’s current Spring/ Summer 2017 line and I admit there were a good 3 to 4 things I wanted– from a striking red duffel with a printed snake, a snake belt, to crystal- encrusted furry mules. I also liked a few ready-to-wear pieces (oh be still my wallet!!)

I will attend Gucci’s FW 2017 collection resee in 2 days so I can take a look at everything up close. But I can honestly say I loved Michele’s SS2017 collection far more than his just- shown FW2017. By a mile. But again, let’s see if I change my tune once I see everything up close in a few days.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF GUCCI

Categories:Other Brands

Born in 1881, craftsman’s son Guccio Gucci founded the House of Gucci as a saddlery shop in Florence in 1906. Guccio's first talent was his craftsmanship in leather goods. He started out selling leather bags to horsemen in the 1920’s and progressed to luxury luggage as his clients graduated from equine transportation to horseless carriages. In 1938 Guccio Gucci opened their first retail shop on the Via Condotti in Rome.

In 1947 the immediately recognizable Gucci icon, the leather bag with bamboo handle, is created. During the 1950’s the trademark red striped webbing is introduced, taken from its original form place on a saddle girth. This became an emblem much as the leather moccasin with leather bit.

Guccio Gucci created many of his classics early during the 1950’s; products such as luggage, ties, shoes, and the famous handbags sporting the bamboo handle. After his death in 1953, his family was able to take the enormously successful company to new heights by opening stores in Paris, Beverly Hills, London, Palm Beach, and Tokyo. The 1960’s brought increased fame to the Gucci Empire. Such Hollywood stars as Grace Kelly, Peter Sellers and Audrey Hepburn made the name Gucci synonymous with “chic”. Jackie Kennedy helped by being photographed with the Gucci shoulder bag, which subsequently became known as the “Jackie O”. The company adopts the “GG” logo.

But with the fame and recognition of the brand name came some turmoil. While Gucci goods were considered a status symbol of the times, management and inner family seemed to disagree. Brother Maurizio Gucci took an apparently ailing business over from his founding brother, who in turn sold it to an Arab concern in the 80’s.

In the 1990’s, Tom Ford, Gucci’s newest executive head, has brought Gucci back to the center of chic, and now commands a varied line of products including leather fashions, perfumes, colognes, cosmetics, shoes (including the moccasin with the distinctive Gucci snaffle-bit), the "Flora" foulard created for Grace Kelly by Rodolfo Gucci, suitcases, watches, jewelry, silk scarves, sports articles, belt clasps (the one with the Guccio Gucci initials, was introduced 1964), ties, and eyeglasses.

For the past year we have been seeing Gucci bags on the arms on many celebrities, bloggers, and regular gals alike- which is why we were excited to take a deeper look into the history of Gucci! GUCCI MARMONT IS THE COLLECTION YOUR FALL WARDROBE NEEDS

Categories:Other Brands

Always, someone new learns what I do for a living, almost invariably, he or she asks me what my favorite bag or brand is. I typically respond with my favorite designer of the moment, along with a few widely popular bags; for this fall, my response to everyone will include the Gucci Marmont collection.

Gucci Fall Winter 2016 features bags and clothing that work together to showcase one cohesive vision, which allows the entire line to work in your wardrobe for years to come.

Gucci GG Marmont Matelasse Studs in White

By now you all know I’m a Gucci girl and have been for years. With Alessandro Michele at the helm the brand has blossomed, and every collection has turned into the season’s most coveted among shoppers, and not just because of the wonderful bags; ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories have all proved to be huge hits. I’ve loved seeing the brand’s aesthetic grow, and I can tell you without any hesitation that the Gucci Marmont Handbag collection is going to work its way into your heart.

We already shared a preview of the Gucci Fall Winter 2016 collection with you, and many of you chimed in to agree with my thinking–everything at Gucci is so good right now.

Gucci GG Marmont Matelassé Tote & Gucci Embroidered wool top

Sometimes you see a line of bags and you just know it’s going to connect with bag lovers. The GG Marmont design gathers its inspiration from a buckle Gucci used in the 1970s; immediately upon seeing the logo there’s a throwback feel, but the initials still feel modern. Each bag of the collection features the GG motif as the main ornament, and the shapes of the designs have a relaxed feel.

While each bag offers a bit of structure, there is a softness to the design that allows you to feel comfortable to carry it all day, every day. There are a few different styles of bags, including three shoulder bags, tote bags and camera-style crossbodies. The camera case got my immediate attention, and if you’re a regular PurseBlog reader, you know how obsessed I already am with my Gucci Soho Disco Bag.

Gucci GG Marmont Matelassé Shoulder Bag in Yellow

It’s hard to pick a favorite with so many beautiful options, but mine just might be the Gucci GG Marmont Matelassé Shoulder Bag, which is also available in a similar, smaller camera bag. It’s bigger than the Soho Disco that I use non-stop, but not too large to get in your way.

I love the chevron quilting, paired with the flat leather and the front external pocket. This bag is on my list, and not only is it lovely, but it’s also at a great price point. There are a few colorways including yellow, white, black and Gucci Ghost print. I am planning to add a Gucci Marmont Bag to my collection, and considering my personal style and what matters to me most in a bag, this one is it.

Gucci Pink GG Marmont Matelassé Shoulder Bag & Fox Fur Coat

Each GG Marmont design melds functionality with femininity in a wide variety of colors and materials, all featuring brass chain shoulder straps whose coloring and size works well with each bag. Take the pink GG Marmont Matelassé Shoulder Bag, for example: I love the quilting on the smooth calf leather and the bubblegum pink color. This piece immediately grabs your attention, and if you’re looking for a super-feminine bag, look no further.

gucci marmont velvet bag

Speaking of options, I fell for the velvet Gucci Marmont Bags too. I actually don’t own a velvet bag and since Vlad and I spend most of our time in Florida, it hadn’t occurred to me to get one. If you live in a place where the seasons change and you want to be fashion-forward, do not rule it out; the petrol blue hue on the GG Marmont Velvet Shoulder Bag has me dreaming of crisp fall days.

Gucci creates colors that are rich and wonderful, and this bag is no exception. Even with my typical style, this bag would be a standout piece, and I’m more in love with it than I thought I’d be. From grey or camel fall coats to crisp white blouses, if you pair this bag with your normal seasonal wardrobe, you’ll amp up your style tenfold. I like the smaller size of this bag, but there is a larger size as well, which is available in different velvet colorways. That being said, blue is a color I think works for everyone, and in this size and at this price, I love it as a fall staple.

Gucci GucciGhost Marmont Bag & Gucci Sequin tulle skirt

If you’re looking for something different, the GucciGhost collaboration may meet your fancy. Artist GucciGhost, a.k.a. Trouble Andrew, collaborated with Alessandro Michele to create a special line for the Fall Winter 2016 collection, and some of the pieces have already been spotted on fashion-forward stars like Rihanna and Madonna. The collaboration incorporates GucciGhost’s street art into the season’s designs, which are layered with a graffiti GG and stars pattern in blue and yellow. While there are additional bags and accessories, of course I love the GucciGhost print on this shoulder bag.

Also, if you order any item from the GucciGhost collaboration, it will arrive in special edition GucciGhost packaging.

Gucci Pink GG Marmont Matelassé Shoulder Bag – Hearts Detail & Fox Fur Coat

Some additional details from the GG Marmont collection include embroidered hearts on the back of the bags, which is a wonderful hidden detail that makes the bags feel personal and special. While some bags include the quilted heart detail on the back, others feature an embroidered GG design. The interiors of the bag vary some, with beige microfibre for the leather models and peony-colored silk for the velvet versions of the bag; both have interior pockets.

When you want multiple bags from one collection, you know it’s a great lineup, and that is exactly how I feel about Gucci Marmont. You can’t go wrong with any of these bags, and my difficulty lies in attempting to figure out exactly which bag I need to add to my collection. Inevitably, I’ll wind up with one of these bags, and soon you’ll get a full review on my choice. If you ask me, though, a bag from Gucci Marmont is just what your fall wardrobe is asking for as well.
