A Horse is a Horse, Of Course, Of Course—Unless It’s Hermès, Then It’s a $133k Art Piece

Categories:Other Brands

THE PRICE ISN’T A TYPO, BUT THEN AGAIN, IT NEVER IS WITH HERMÈS.

The longer you spend working in or writing about the luxury industry, the more desensitized to its absurdities you become. Luxury is maximal by definition—if not by appearance, then by some sort of abundance. Moderation is its natural opposite, so once an idea of abundance is taken to its logical extreme, a further logical extreme must be invented. Today, we’ve found a new one: an Hermès leather horse statue that measures 4.5 feet long and rings up at a steep $133,000. Even if you’re medium-rich, it’s probably enough to make you empathize with how all those French peasants felt about Marie Antoinette.

Marley the Poney, as Hermès is calling her (him? Marley’s gender is unclear), is a one-of-a-kind upholstered mini-statue that answers the question, “How do we continue to get the ultra wealthy to spend their money with us when we have already sold them a half dozen versions of literally everything they already realized it was possible to need or want?” Apparently, you construct a barnyard animal out of leather and then give it an all-over leather mane that makes it look like if Cousin It were a horse, but also, spiritually, a handbag. And then you assign this monument to upholstery a six-figure price tag, because what does money even mean anymore? It’s 2017, baby. We’re through the looking glass.

As always, it’s instructive in these situations to do the math on what else one might buy with Cousin It Handbag Horse money. Mostly, that means tallying up the modest new cars or other leather handbags one might buy, but in this case, Marley’s whopping price tag will get you two well-equipped BMW X5 SUVs, a small collection of Hermès’s ultra rare crocodile Birkins or Kellys, or, in many parts of the US, your first starter home. For people who already have all that stuff locked up, well: it gets you a large (but not, like, impressively large) leather horse in need of a haircut, which is either useful for intimidating visitors to your country estate by letting them know you have more money than God or an incredibly dumb way to let grifters, hustlers and scammers of all types know that you’d be an easy mark. Your choice, really.

Potentially, the funniest part of all of this is that Marley is part of the Hermès petite h program, which was created to put to use the leftover leathers and silks that are a biproduct of the brand’s existing accessories businesses. It’s unclear if that’s indeed Marley’s material origin, but if that part of the petite h ethos applies here, then someone’s literally going to pay six figures for recyclables.

HERMES OPLI CLUTCH

Hermes-Opli-clutch

Hermes has a long list of classic handbags and they don’t create new ones very often. But when they do, you will always be the first one to know at Bragmybag. Now introducing the Hermes Opli Clutch Bag for the Spring Summer 2017 Collection.

The Opli Clutch Bag is designed in single colors with a futuristic appeal. The lines are perfect, the edges are sharp and it looks minimal. It’s made with a front flap that can be opened with a hidden snap closure. If you take a look at the sides, you will notice that the leather has been folded to create the interior, which is a clever idea.

And because the interior is foldable, it can expand when you open the clutch. Inside you will find one large compartment (quite big for a clutch bag) to help you carry your essentials. This large compartment looks like the inside of a small box. There is also a smaller interior front pocket for mini accessories.

Overall, the Hermes Opli Clutch looks easy but it’s all about the structure of the design. This bag is made from goatskin, which is a strong and durable leather. Measuring 8.3’ x 4.7’ x 3.1’ inches, priced at $3225 USD via Hermes boutiques.

So what do you think? Is it stunning or…?

Prada Men’s Spring 2018

Categories:Fashion

Miuccia Prada for Men’s Spring 2018 Collection got inspired by comic books. The designer admitted that she doesn’t read them but she enjoys the illustrations and appreciates their uniqueness. The fact that comic books are a hand drawn piece of art was the main thing that inspired the designer to put comic motives all over her designs.

“They are little fragments of life, which is what you get now from the information, the media: So I was more and more attracted to them. Even if I never liked them.”

The designer wanted to celebrate the human’s talent and hard work in the digital world. Miuccia asked her longtime friend James Jean and Belgian graphic artist Ollie Schrauwen to paint the roof, the floor and the walls with Roy Lichtenstein-ish cartoons- inspired characters. Anyway, she asked the artists to avoid too superhero motives because she wanted to celebrate the humanity. The two artists covered the panels with giant monkeys, bugs and ladies’ eyes with bold black lashes, a huge ant looming over a house, rushing locomotive and etc.

When it comes to the clothes Miuccia Prada certainly surprised everyone with this collection. Prada presented many boiler suits in a Haute Couture version that confused everyone. It seems unusual for a man to buy boiler suit by Prada and work around the house in it. Maybe boiler suits are making a breakthrough in the fashion industry. We won’t be surprised considering the fact that the fanny packs made their comeback and the biggest style icons can’t get enough of them. Luckey for them Miuccia Prada included enough oversized fanny bags in this collection.

The collection was dominated by graphics and daring designs. Prada stated that she wanted to celebrate every day’s peoples’ stories, but her designs were definitely far away from the comfort zone.

It’s safe to say that the coats were the most wearable pieces of the collection. It was unclear why Prada decided to show heavy wool coats and sweaters for Spring 2018. Miuccia Prada knew people would be confused and explained her decision.

“Everything was a little bit too naive, too simple, so we thought these heavy coats would be the right counterpart. That is just fashion—because we love it.”

The pants were high-waisted, loose and accessorized with skinny plain and printed belts.
